Kathleen Hanna and I received the artist/activist buddy award honored by Willie Mae Rock Camp for 10 years of continuous service. Other honorees included Chiaso de Blasio, Santigold, Carla Miller, and DJ Rekha. I still can't believe it. I am so fortunate.

The band "Stacey" from Willie Mae Rock Camp with my longtime drum student!
Whoa do they sound great! The drummer, Eva, has been taking drum lessons with me since she was in 5th grade. She is now in 8th grade. Natural loose sticking looks effortless here.
These girls met this week, wrote a song, and performed it yesterday. Bravo!!

Pink Veins tonight live on WFMU
Teen band "Pink Veins" will be live on Minor Music on WFMU, a show hosted by Jesse Krakow, tonight Monday the 12th! They'll be playing original songs and you'll hear a few I recorded at my Pencil Factory studio. Lucie and Webb, the guitar/bass/vocalists, have been students with me since they were 10 years old. Here they are all 16 (!!!) and performing originals live. Very excited for this talented trio. Breakout star Larissa on drums.

"Texas Monthly Magazine" review of the Girls Rock Camp Austin. OCTOBER 2009.
I got a little quote in
the article....
TUESDAY
Every day at rock camp had a schedule: assembly in the morning, then instrument instruction, workshops, and band rehearsal. Another of the coaches, Sara Landeau, a guitar teacher from Brooklyn who helps run the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls there, told me that she has taught classes of girls and classes of girls and boys. “When boys are in the group, they won’t stop playing, and they’re very loud. Girls won’t take solos—they won’t play in front of the boys. But if it’s all girls, they’ll play.”
